Cigarette Trousers

7. Cropped Trousers + Ballet Flats

Steal this Hepburn style trick: add interest to a basic outfit with a pair of embroidered ballet flats.

The cigarette trouser is a timeless piece in any woman's wardrobe. It's a sophisticated and elegant take on masculine trousers. The high-waist and fitted leg elongate the body and are universally flattering. These tailored, clean cut  trousers give a polished feel to any outfit. The high-street currently has a range of great options on offer when it comes to these trousers. My personal favourites come in wide stripe monochrome prints, this season's craze. Scroll down to see my picks from Topshop, Zara, ASOS and Mango.

How to wear

As these are high waisted I like to pair them with cropped tops and jumpers. They would look equally good worn with a body on top to give you a slim silhouette. They look great paired with flats in the day, preferably moccasins or loafers, and heeled sandals for night. Wear with neutral colours so they stand out as a statement piece.

High End vs. High Street

Afficher l'image d'origine

I've seen this Dior wool jumper in nearly every magazine lately. I love the cropped style and long, baggy sleeves. It comes in an array of shades, but I find the pale blue so fresh, uplifting and original. It's part of their 2016 spring summer collection and, of course, costs an arm and a leg (and nearly the other leg). However, fear not, like most high end pieces, there are affordable alternatives to be found on the high street. Topshop in particular has a few similar jumpers in store at the moment that I really love, so, I thought I'd share them with you.

I actually have this jumper in a dark, mossy green shade (it is nice, I swear) which I bought in Autumn. I love the high neck which I find to be quite flattering and, more importantly, keeps you nice and warm. So, when I saw that Topshop have now brought out the same style jumper in cream and pale blue, I was very pleased indeed. The 3/4 length sleeve annoyed me a little in Winter but as Summer is fast approaching I think it will make a nice throw-on piece in the warmer months.

This is almost the same as the previous jumper only with a slightly lower neckline, longer sleeves, cropped with lattice details on the sides. I think it's quite an unusual take on a simple jumper but it makes for a more interesting and original piece.

I am really just obsessed with this colour more than anything as I think it breathes life into any outfit. What a better way to update your wardrobe for Spring?

What I Loved This Week

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

This little gem had sunk into the depths of my makeup collection, but this week it has been rightfully unearthed and I haven't put it down since. The colours don't look too impressive in the pan but they subtly give definition to the eyes and make you look more awake. They are easy to use, a dream to blend and very effective. Personally, I love matte eyeshadows for a simple everyday look that you can trust will go with any makeup look.

Bourjois Radiance Reveal

Another recent makeup favourite has been this new release by Bourjois. This concealer, containing hyuralonic acid, is great for brightening as well as covering redness. It's not incredibly high coverage so it won't work on blemishes or very dark circles, but I love it because it's highly moisturising and comfortable on the skin. It adds light coverage and brightens without looking heavy or cakey. I also use it for touch ups throughout the day as it doesn't disturb your makeup underneath.

Like I Would

Rebelling against his squeaky clean, boy-band image, Zayn with his dyed hair, bared chest and tattoos proudly on show isn't doing too bad on his own. I really didn't expect to like his new album, but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. His most recent track Like I Would is a guilty pleasure of mine. Serious ear worm alert.

Lucy Wyndham Read

With bikini season fast approaching I have been meaning to kickstart my exercise regime but to no avail. I just haven't been able to motivate myself. Then Lucy's April hit work outs came along. I first discovered her YouTube channel through watching the sacconne jolys videos. She has started a work out series for the month of April which has been a real god send. The workouts are high intensity training but last just four minutes so are really easy to fit into your daily routine. You don't need any equipment and the workouts are suitable for beginners. After my first work out I noticed I had more energy for the rest of the day and could feel my muscles starting to strengthen.

Carol

Heavily influenced by my current obsession with Cate Blanchette, I decided to watch the critically acclaimed Carol. Cate was obviously brilliant in it but what I loved most was the gorgeous 1950s costumes and makeup. After I watched it I found myself lusting after coral lipstick and matching nail polish. Very good movie, well acted and aesthetically stunning.
